Government Official States MoD Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Staff Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been told to refrain from talking about classified information in all cars.

Security Guidance for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret material while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister said that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a concern in all modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their car, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any car, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Defence Background

The revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been shining laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

The broader defence situation underscores the significance of robust measures and caution in all areas of official operations, from transport usage to communication practices.
