His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional title, took control to create a decider.

He defended 4 initial chances in a close final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
